So if I don't know much about policy how do I make sense of the current political climate? Well I go to what I do know. Chinese martial arts and philosophy. That's what I've dedicated my life to learning and while I'm still a baby in the process only studying for 20 years, I'd trust my judgment on the understanding of Chinese martial arts and philosophies way before I would on say an immigration policy. Mainly cause, and again immigration law and policy is not my expertise and I can't really give you more than personal opinion on such subjects.
So how does martial arts help me to understand? Well in a word its balance. Yin yang. On the ground level it comes down to a fight. When in combat one must maintain balance. If you are sturdy and balanced and you take a direct shot to the head or body the energy is more evenly dispersed through out the body causing less damage. If you take a direct shot while falling back off your heels in an awkward and/or unbalanced body position the damage and effect of the blow will be much greater. This is simple fighting philosophy that any martial artists would know through experience. Most likely the sweet smell of that sulfur stick they used to wake you up with.
Ok great. That's a decent strategy to not getting knocked out in a fist fight. But how does that apply to such a grand social divide such as the one we are watching unfold in America? Ok let's take it one step further. In martial arts we tend to learn lessons about ourselves and our fellow men/women by way of the training. We train our body mind and spirit. We have all kinds of crazy training methods aimed at strengthening all three. We don't need to get into the actual methods but in short we like to put it in your face. We tend to learn and teach by feeling and hands on practice. You know imbalance is bad cause you get beat up over and over until you maintain balance. A balanced body cannot truly exist without a balanced mind. Too much fear can work against you in a fight. Not enough can also work against you. Spirit can be, say your willpower and discipline. If you have no willpower to fight your balanced body and mind cannot work together. If you have too much willpower and confidence you loose humility and are open to being imbalanced because you do not respect the skills of your enemy. I can equate the 3 branches of government to the mind body spirit philosophies we use in martial arts training. All 3 are burning too hot for effectiveness. It's breeding all kinds of illness within and all three are acting out of emotion and fighting from a complete imbalanced stance. You cannot win without balance. In martial arts winning is not being killed in a fight. But the methods to winning in a fight can be applied to winning anything. Like maybe winning at being a country or winning at being an awesome society that everyone wants to be like, rather than one everyone loves to loathe.
So I apply this basic martial arts philosophy of balance to the political temperature we are seeing today. In Chinese philosophy that temperature is yang times 10. Too much heat. Too much male. No balance. In Chinese medicine if the climate is too hot it breeds infection and disease. In a fight if your too yang your acting out of fear and anger alone poisoning your ability to think clearly and properly use technique. I believe in politics this can be seen as moderate or centered. We as a country and our government are blindly acting out of fear and anger. Why this is a recipe for utter defeat is clear to this martial artist. Balance yourself. Try to see things through your expertise rather than trying to assume you know something about politics cause chances are you don't. People don't spend decades studying law because it's easy to understand no more than people spend decades training in martial arts because it's easy to understand. I can see the imbalance clearly but my lack of knowledge in policy keeps me from suggesting educated solutions that could be effective in the political world. Who knows maybe I'll study up and run for office. You guys would vote for me right? Hahahah. But I can say until we see better balance as a society and more balance within our government we will be totally incapable of winning as just like a fight, you take a hit while unbalanced it does far more damage. The question I have is how many hits can our county take during this time of great imbalance. A little silver lining is the thing with balance. It naturally goes back and fourth and if you look through history politics have followed a pretty easy to see balancing act of yin yang for centuries. So in other words all this heat can only burn for so long before it's out of things to burn. It will naturally cool down to yin where things will eventually get so cool growth is inhibited and the yang fires up again to help create the balance needed to win. So let's try and win by bringing back some balance. Not make America great again. Make America balanced again so we can go back to actually winning instead of being told we are winning. I know one thing you don't need to study law to know. We are not winning.
